Chiropractors are being asked to assess newborn babies to ease birth trauma. As well as checking children of all ages to help keep their bodies in balance and function as well as possible. Chiropractic care for newborns and children differs significantly from the treatment performed on adults. Infant adjustments are very gentle and typically a baby will be soothed by these techniques.
Chiropractic care is also a great way to have additional support with babies. Your chiropractor will be able to see your baby reach exciting new milestones with you and often be able to give suggestions that can aid in optimal development.
“But what about the things we hear in the news about chiropractic?”
Unfortunately with media these days, there is not necessarily an interest to pursue factual information. A recent study in 2014 concluded that chiropractic is considered safe* for infants and children. This study analysed 64 years of data and reviewed not only chiropractic care but also other manual therapies.
Another question I have been asked is “Won’t my child grow out of this problem?” There is no hard and fast answer to this question. There are some issues which may be short term, and phase out through growth and development. However, we do see many cases where mechanical issues or imbalances become habitual for the child causing further troubles down the track. Early detection and intervention is always best.
Nothing is more exciting then seeing a happy, healthy family and being a part of that achievement.
